JEITA RC-8141C — 4.4 mm Pentaconn Standard

Japan Electronics and Information Technology Industries Association standard RC-8141C, published in 2016, defines the mechanical and electrical specification for the 4.4 mm 5-pole TRRRS audio connector — universally known as ‘Pentaconn’ after Nippon Dics’s commercial brand.
The standard specifies the connector’s 4.4 mm shank diameter, the five-pole TRRRS contact geometry, signal assignment (L+, L-, R+, R-, shield), pole-to-pole spacing, mating-force tolerances, and mechanical insertion-lifecycle minimums. It exists because the 2.5 mm TRRS balanced connectors that preceded it had become a chronic reliability liability across the portable-audio industry.
