Overview
Palladium-plated connector contact surfaces — the alternative to gold for users skeptical of gold’s softness and prone-to-galling behavior. Palladium has higher hardness, better wear resistance over repeated connect/disconnect cycles, and doesn’t oxidize meaningfully at room temperature.
Sonically indistinguishable from gold in measurements; mechanically slightly more durable in high-cycle applications. Used selectively on professional patch panels and connectors that see daily insertion.
Found in some premium variants of 4.4 mm Pentaconn and XLR. Cost premium over standard 24K gold plating is approximately 1.3×.
