Overview
Single-conductor solid-core copper wire — typically 18–22 AWG — used in audiophile interconnects and speaker cables that prioritize cross-strand-noise elimination over flexibility. With only one conductor cross-section, there is no proximity-effect inter-strand current pumping at all.
Trade-off: extremely poor flex life. Solid-core cable will fatigue and fracture at any single repeated bend point. Best suited to permanent installations where the cable is routed once and left alone.
A minority audiophile-cable construction philosophy. The opposite engineering approach to litz construction, with passionate advocates in both camps.
